About Those Michael Fassbender/Domestic Assault Rumors

It’s no secret that we’re big fans around here of Michael Fassbender’s smoking hot body and drool-worthy mug. But it has come to our attention from commenters, both on past posts about Fassbender and on a slideshow we did yesterday in honor of his 35th birthday, that all is not roses in Fassyland. According to a March 2010 blog post on TMZ, an ex-girlfriend accused Michael Fassbender of being violent towards her and filed a petition for a restraining order against him.

The details as reported by TMZ are pretty horrific: his ex claimed he threw her over a chair, broke her nose, dragged her alongside her car, and caused her to twist her left ankle and blow out her left kneecap. In addition to a restraining order, she asked for $20,000 to cover medical expenses for her injuries. Upon further investigation, the charges filed by this ex against Fassbender were dropped. According to the celeb gossip blog Lainey Gossip, his ex withdrew her claims and “sources close to [the ex] say that she didn’t want to jeopardize his burgeoning career and worried that he may not be able to gain entry into the U.S. should he have had the case on record.” Lainey Gossip also pointed out that “supporters of Fassbender” are quick to point out his ex “demonstrated a lack of credibility,” and cynically suggested that perhaps the ex was “paid off by those managing his career.”

We were honestly unaware of these exact accusations against Fassbender; hopefully this post will educate readers who were also in the dark about them. Previously, we’d just read random comments on blogs referencing abuse, which we assumed to be rumors. (Blog comments are, in general, not necessarily a place to look for facts!) Regardless of what happened, we take allegations of domestic violence seriously here at The Frisky and Michael Fassbender’s alleged incidents certainly color our view of an otherwise talented gent and give us pause in lavishing praise on him in the future. Thank you to the commenters who pointed the accusations. Here’s hoping they’re not true.
