DIY Modern Christmas Wreath

Whether it’s day to day styling or the modern holiday decor, I’m all about easy, simple, quick, and lovely. This modern Christmas wreath checks all those boxes. It only took me about 10 minutes and is one of my favorite minimalist holiday decor items. My boys were shocked I made this (not sure if that’s a compliment or what…), but I’m definitely proud of the result! And, not only is it easy, it’s also super inexpensive, so I may make a few more for good measure!

Not only is this an easy diy project for a modern Christmas wreath, but it’s modern holiday decor you could enjoy throughout the season!

Modern Christmas Wreath Supplies:

Wondering how to make a modern Christmas wreath? Well, I used many supplies from other projects (like leftover brass bells from my DIY bell garland) and regular household items.

You can totally mix things up and use what you have on hand but each hoop wreath supply is easy to find and I’ve included some sources here.

  • Macrame Ring Gold Hoop  I used the 12″ which seems easy to work with – I used the extra ones to make yarn hangings later
  • Vintage Style Bells: I used these 2.5″ Rounded Top Bells
  • Craft Wire:  Most wire will work, just make sure it’s easy to bend, it will save you a lot of trouble
  • Jute String: This is a good option, though you could try ribbon or velvet
  • Greenery: I scrounged around our yard and took apart a different wreath I scored, but you could always try ordering live greenery
  • Other ideas: pinecones, berries, and holly would be lovely in a holiday wreath as well

This Christmas wreath was seriously so easy to make, it’s essentially just wrapping wire around greenery. A much more modern and earth friendly approach than using styrofoam forms.

Time needed: 10 minutes

How to Make a DIY Hoop Wreath

  1. Cut Craft Wire

Using strong scissors or wire cutters, cut wire into 12″ pieces

  2. Layout Greenery Around Metal Ring

Place greenery around bottom of ring, arranging for desired symmetry

  3. Wrap Wire Around Greenery Stems

With one hand holding greenery in place, wrap each stem, 1 or 2 at a time with wire until secure

  4. Tie Bells Onto End of Jute String

Measure string about 24″ -30″ long, tie bells to end. Then tie string onto metal wring with simple tie knot. You could add more bells and string if desired

  5. Hang Wreath!

Simply hang wreath with a thumbtack or tiny nail. Asymmetrical wreaths may require a bit of care to hang just so.

This minimal wreath is so easy to make! It can be easily modified for different seasons by using whatever materials are on hand. I’d love to see a dried eucalyptus wreath with or maybe even one with black velvet ribbon. So many options!
