I adore gifts that come in mason jars...they are just so cute and remind me of Christmas in the country for some reason! Today I'm sharing one of my favorite gifts to give during the holiday season, Peppermint Sugar Scrub! This sugar scrub will make your skin feel so soft and smells simply amazing!

What's in Peppermint Sugar Scrub?
- 1 Cup of Sugar
- ¼ Cup of Coconut Oil (Purchase HERE)
- 15 Drops of Peppermint Essential Oil (Purchase HERE)
- Wide Mouth Ball Jar Pint Sized (Purchase HERE)
***You can use any sized jar you like...the above are the ones I used in the photos.
How do you make Peppermint Sugar Scrub?
- Start by mixing 1 cup of sugar and ¼ cup of melted coconut oil together in a large bowl.
- Next, add 15 drops of peppermint essential oils and mix well with a spoon.
- Once it is all mixed together, place it in a jar or airtight container.

They are made to fit regular mason jar lids and the new smaller ones as well! You just print them, cut them out and place on the lid, but under the lid ring. I like to print mine on sticker paper or glue them to the lid to keep them in place! Tie a little ribbon or baker's twine around your lid and add a candy cane and rosemary or evergreen sprig for an extra special touch!

What size mason jar are you using and is the coconut oil in liquid form?

I used organic unrefined coconut oil in the solid form, not liquid. Hope this helps!
I used the solid form of coconut oil, but after you melt it and mix it with the sugar, and place it in a jar, it’s solidifies again and it’s almost impossible to get out of the jar! I made this as gifts for all of my female family, and while they liked the scent, their feedback was how difficult it was to remove from the jar. Wondering if you can use the fractionated coconut oil instead?

There was another site that calls for baby oil... will that work?
You could try it...I'm not a huge fan of baby oil, but should work just fine!
Can this be used on the whole body or just hands and feet?
I use it on my entire body, except for my face! I have sensitive skin, so I only use certain things for my face, but some have used it on their face. Hope this helps!

Does the container have to be glass for peppermint scrub?
Hi, Pam! No, it doesn't have to be glass...plastic will work as well.
Essential oils will degrade the plastic over time so yes you need to use glass.
How long does this keep? I want to make a plan for making it before Christmas.

Hey! Is the coconut oil cold compressed? or is it liquid?
I just made this! I really loved it last night. But this morning the jar of it is solid. Is there a way to fix this?
It should be pretty solid once it is finished, but if it gets really cold, it may be more solid. You can use a spoon to scoop it out or warm it up a bit to make it less solid. Hope this helps!

Does the recipe above make only 1 jar, or more?
This recipe makes one of the jars pictured above or a few small jars.
If I wanted to use peppermint extract instead of oil should I use less or more or is it just to preference?
I'm not real sure...I think you'd just have to add a bit at a time until you get the scent you want...great idea though!

Question. How many jars does the recipe make ?
One large jar or a few small ones. It just depends on the size of the jar. For the ones that have the larger lid, this will make one batch :)
I'm looking for ideas to put in clear ornaments, to use as name tags on a gift. I love this scrub idea, but do you think the scrub would pour out of the ornament easily, or is it took thick?
It may be a bit too think for the glass globe ornaments unfortunately. Are you looking for gift tags and glass ornament ideas?
You can put bath salts in a clear glass ornament. Fill it 3/4 with Epsom Salts, 1 tbsp Baking Soda, 10 drops Essential Oil.
Approximately how long did the scrub last?

Would the coconut /olive etc. oils clog the drain when they are washed down? I read somewhere that in oil pulling with oils, you should spit it out in a paper towel, and not in the sink. After using the scrub, don't you wash it off in the shower or bath?

Thanks so much for sharing. In our business we use fractionated coconut oil which is liquid form. The pro side is that there is less issue with drains and other oil-based ingredients and seems to blend better than using a solid that was melted and then re-solidified. The only negative we've found is that the fractionated coconut oil does not have the rich, creamy vanilla coconut scent which pairs with the peppermint essential oil to make the product smell like candy canes. This can be easily remedied with the addition of few drops of pure vanilla extract or vanilla-infused oil. Oh, and there's no need for a preservative either since peppermint essential oil is itself naturally anti-bacterial. We've also included finely pulverized red/green candy canes to give the scrub a little more festive look. Happy Scrubbing :)
I made this and it smells terrible. Hated to even give it as gifts after I went to the trouble of purchasing everything off your site.
I cannot imagine how it could smell bad. I have had thousands of readers make it with great results. Could one of the things that you used been spoiled maybe?

There shouldn’t, but it won’t hurt. You cane either add more sugar, or give it a stir before using :)

I printed this on black card stock like what u used but the white printing is hardly showing up, what did I do wrong?
