Looking for a fun and colorful way to organize your kitchen counter or desk space? This tutorial will show you how versatile canning jars can be as placeholders for some of the most used items around the home or office. I saw this adorable DIY and wanted to try it out for myself. What I love most about this project is how a set of jars can make a bold statement to instantly brighten up and personalize any living space. Use them to organize kitchen utensils, makeup items, writing tools, or craft accessories. The sky's the limit for what these jars can be used for!

Here's what you'll need:

  • Mason jars
  • Acrylic paint (Americana brand acrylic paint in Peony Pink, Melon, Lemon Yellow, and Sea Breeze)
  • Newspaper
  • Chalkboard sticker tags
  • Chalk/chalkboard marker

Step 1:

Clean the mason jars with soap and water. Dry the jars completely before moving on to the next step to ensure a solid paint finish.

Step 2:

Squeeze a generous amount of paint into the jar to throughly coat the interior surface.

Step 3:

Flip the jar upside down on a few sheets of newspaper. Wait around 10 minutes or so before lifting the jar and placing it.

Step 4:

After about an hour or so, turn the jars right side up and allow them to dry overnight.

Step 5:

Use chalk or chalkboard marker to label the jars. Apply label.

Step 6:

Screw the cap onto the jar without the lid.

Happy organizing!
