4th of July Mantel and a Free Printable Banner!

Today I am sharing my 4th of July mantel and have a free printable patriotic banner for you! Can you believe it is already almost July? Time sure is flying by. 

This weekend we are celebrating my daughter, Hazel’s, third birthday which is on the 30th. Amidst making decorations and preparing for that, I somehow managed to put together a patriotic mantel vignette in honor of the Fourth.

I decided it needed a little something extra, so I created a chalkboard style “Freedom” banner, which is available at the end of this post!

For this mantel vignette, I chose to keep it light and bright with hints of red and blue, and of course, lots of vintage goodness. I recycled a few items from my last “eclectic bohemian” summer mantel vignette. It’s always fun to use the same things in new ways.

I found the large flag, showcased in the center, at our home when we moved in. Since it isn’t in great shape (and should probably be respectfully burned soon), I decided to give it one last moment of dignity at the center of this vignette. When figuring out how I could incorporate this flag, I found that the flag code is actually pretty lengthy with a lot of do’s and don’ts. So as not to offend anyone, I thought folding it up was the way to go.
I put feathers in an antique ink bottle – a nod to the signing of the Declaration of Independence. Two rustic baskets are lined with red and blue ticking fabric.
In the middle of the baskets a collection of books, with red and blue bindings, are tied up with worn striped fabric that is embellished with a glittered star.
I’ve mentioned here before that my mom makes party and wedding decor that she sells on Etsy. She recently added some fun, patriotic wands that I thought would be perfect for this vignette, so I asked her to let me borrow some. They have little jingle bells on them, which the kids love.

My mom was visiting when I finished tweaking this mantel. She gave me the idea to add the patio chair, which I threw an old burlap sack over to bring another hint of the red and blue.

In a recent post where I shared a patriotic vignette that I did in 2009, I talked about my love of adding sewing notions and the like to my vignettes. I didn’t want to replicate that vignette here, but I couldn’t resist filling an old enamel bowl with some vintage thread balls and spools.

And now for the free printable! I made a chalkboard style pennant banner spelling out “FREEDOM” with stars on either side to hang on my own mantel and am offering it for you to print and decorate with as well!

This banner is fairly easy to make. I made three different files for you to print with three pennants on each sheet (8 1/2″ x 11″ in size for standard printing). 
Once all three pages are printed you can cut each pennant out simply with scissors or a small paper cutter if you want them to be precise, which is what I use. I use one similar to this one: Fiskars 12 Inch Titanium SureCut Paper Trimmer (01-005454) (*affiliate link). 
Punch two holes in each pennant at the top (but not too close so that they don’t rip) and then line them up in order. I used twine to string them all together and left a little extra on each end to leave some wiggle room for hanging. And that is it!
