How to Make a Valentine Box – Our Love Robot
I’m so excited to have been invited to contribute a creative Valentine Box for Valentine’s Day with Plaid Crafts. Last week Plaid sent us a box of Plaid Apple Barrel paints to use along with a challenge to make a fun and funky Valentine Box. And I think robots are pretty fun and funky, don’t you? So if you need a Valentine Box for your kiddo for school or just to collect your hubby’s love notes at home (*wink*), I’ve got you covered. Here’s how to make a Valentine Box Robot…

How to Make a Valentine Box Robot
Materials:
- empty tissue box
- Plaid Apple Barrel Paint – We used dark grey and pink.
- paint brushes
- paint tray or paper plate
- paper roll tube
- Mod Podge (optional)
- pipe cleaners – We used shimmery blue and pink.
- hot glue gun and hot glue sticks
- large googly eyes
Steps:
1. Paint the entire tissue box with your base color. We painted ours dark grey. I was super impressed with the way the Apple Barrel Paint covered the pattern on the box in one coat! Allow paint to dry.
2. Fold a paper roll tube into a heart and tape the end to make a heart stamp (for more instructions on how to make a paper roll heart stamp, hop on over to Housing a Forest!). Spread some Apple Barrel Paint (we chose pink) on a paint pallete or paper plate, and use your paper roll heart stamp to stamp hearts all over your box. Allow paint to dry. (If you would like to seal the paint for more durability, apple Mod Podge now – after paint is fully dry – and allow that to dry fully, too.)
3. While paint is drying, bend your pipe cleaners into cute heart antennae and curly cues to use for “robot lips”.
4. Use your hot glue gun and hot glue to attach the googly eyes and pipe cleaner antennae and lips.
Now fill that adorable Love Robot with LOVE!
